Federal Funding for Frankston Pedestrian Road

The Federal Morrison Government has today announced funding to improve pedestrian road safety at McCormicks Road in Carrum Downs following the tragic fatality of Oak Tree Retirement Village resident Phyllis Miles at the intersection in July last year.

Following close consultations with Frankston City Council in recent months, Senator for Victoria David Van said he was delighted the Council were appropriating the $743,911 they received in May from the Morrison Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to this important pedestrian safety upgrade.

“I welcome the Council’s commitment to working with the Morrison Government on this important road safety improvement project and to the many other important infrastructure projects in the City of Frankston.

“The Federal Government and the Frankston City Council have been working closely for some months together to get this important project underway and it is terrific that we are able to make the announcement today.” Senator Van said.

This funding announcement today is in addition to the $986,000 of important road safety upgrades in the City of Frankston that the Morrison Government announced earlier this month through the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.

Under the Black Spot Program, the Morrison Government is providing funding for important road safety initiatives in the City of Frankston, including $778,000 to upgrade the intersection of Frankston-Dandenong Road and O’Grady’s Road in Carrum Downs and $198,000 to upgrade the intersection of McClelland Drive and Skye Road in Langwarrin.

“Alongside this month’s Black Spot funding announcement, the awarding of funding for the McCormicks Road in Carrum Downs pedestrian upgrades further demonstrates the commitment the Morrison Government have to the Frankston Community.”  Senator Van said.

The Morrison Government will continue to deliver for the people of Dunkley, including funding important road safety initiatives and infrastructure upgrades for the City of Frankston.

Senator Van said “I am pleased to read the recent letter from Frankston City Council Mayor Cr Sandra Mayer to the Prime Minister the Hon Scott Morrison MP thanking the Coalition Government for the $500 million committed and delivered to important infrastructure improvements in the City of Frankston during her tenure.

The Morrison Liberal Government has a significant track record of investing in improvements to community infrastructure within the City of Frankston, including redeveloping major community sporting infrastructure venues, such as; the Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve, Jubilee Park Indoor Stadium and the RF Miles Recreation Reserve. While the Morrison Government has also provided key funding for commuter transport infrastructure projects such as the Frankston – Baxter rail electrification and duplication project, and new commuter car parking projects along the Frankston line and road safety improvements in Carrum Downs and Langwarrin.

“I look forward to further close collaboration with the Frankston City Council on behalf of the Morrison Government to provide essential infrastructure improvements for the Frankston community in the post-COVID recovery.” Senator Van said.
